The FAA has approved the Touzet Studio-designed Grove Central, an innovative $200 million mixed-use project that will use solar panels to produce its own electricity. Grove Central is located at the Coconut Grove Metrorail station and is being developed by Terra Group and Grass River Property. The building will be the first Urban Microgrid in Florida and will feature solar panels which will produce 2 megawatts of power that will be stored in batteries at a rate of 20 megawatts per hour. Grove Central will also feature a geothermal AC system and a waste-to-energy plant that will convert sewage into usable power. The proposal is currently undergoing wind tunnel testing.
